Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer for a Remote long-term contract opportunity.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Collaborate with a geographically diverse design team, including employees, subcontractors, partner employees, and customers, to develop supporting design documentation.
  • Create and manage design packages, including requirements, performance criteria, design basis documents, 3D models, and system interface drawings.
  • Interface with and support licensing activities.
  • Support planning and schedule adherence for design activities, ensuring alignment with the overall design delivery schedule.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight for supplier projects, coordinating with the contract administrator to ensure the timely delivery of data and other deliverables. Conduct technical reviews of deliverables.
  • Design core assembly systems and sub-systems from requirements through to final design.
  • Coordinate analyses and testing (e.g., thermal, seismic, structural, vibratory) required for design validation.
  • Ensure the correct application of design codes (e.g., ASME, ANS) and regulatory standards to mechanical system design.
  • Generate design change packages, including calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Promote continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain high-quality engineering design and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in design reviews to verify compliance and completeness at project milestones and assessment points.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university with 5+ years of experience in mechanical systems design.
  • Proficiency with P6 scheduling and Agile Project Management.
  • Experience developing designs for complex mechanical systems and managing multi-disciplinary integration.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles and design control tools, especially in nuclear or complex industrial applications.
  • Experience with nuclear reactors, high-temperature pressure vessels, or similar systems is highly desired.
  • Functional knowledge of ASME Sect III Code is preferred.
  • Experience with CAD and SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to technical excellence.
  • Self-starter with the ability to coordinate and work within a design team with minimal direction.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing objectives and design constraints.
  • Experience with quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
  • Strong integrity, trust, open communication, and a desire to foster teamwork.
