Sr. Fuel Handling System Design Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Fuel Handling System Design Engineer for a long-term contract career opportunity, 100% remote.
OVERVIEW:
The Senior Fuel Handling System Design Engineer will focus on designing mechanical fuel handling and process systems for equipment operating within a reactor vessel. The role involves collaboration with engineers across systems, contributing to advanced nuclear reactor projects as part of a high-performing team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design nuclear in-vessel fuel handling systems from requirements to final design.
- Manage Systems, Structures, and Component (SSC) requirements, ensuring traceability and configuration control.
- Apply appropriate design codes (e.g., ASME, ANS, ASTM) to plant system designs.
- Allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process systems.
- Create and manage system design drawings, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Oversee supplier projects, ensuring timely data and deliverables through technical reviews.
- Develop and review technical documents, such as System Design Descriptions and Interface Control Documents.
- Support design reviews as system designs are refined.
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent STEM discipline (M.S. or Doctorate preferred).
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in designing complex mechanical systems.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Preferred experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling, or high-performance systems.
- Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section III or VIII codes is desired.
- Knowledge of quality standards (e.g., ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001) is a plus.
