Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Development Engineer for a contract opportunity located in Plymouth, MI.

OVERVIEW: 


Lead development projects involving conventional, hybrid, and fully electrified powertrain testing in a laboratory environment

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Actively participate in the development of new powertrain calibrations and hardware technologies for future automotive products.
  • Independently lead test cell activities by developing work instructions and test plans that can be used by technicians and junior engineers to properly set up and execute the scope of a given engine test project.
  • Utilize and create post processing tools to assure data quality and track usefulness of data in generation of final calibration or reports.
  • Analyze engine performance and emissions test data from conventional, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains and develop future test plans based on the results.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports to customers and internal management.
  • Provide technical contributions in a project team environment and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Survey light duty and heavy-duty powertrain technology trends and market demand to plan projects and understand future business requirements.
  • Confer with department manager and / or program management staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost, and timing for engine development quotes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and five or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others and ability to establish peer relationships.
  • Detailed knowledge of modern powertrain systems and relevant testing techniques.
  • Ability to prioritize work and resource, and work independently with minimal direction.
  • Experience in data analysis and the presentation of testbed results to customer audiences.
  • Ability to recognize new business opportunities.
  • Microsoft Office Skills.
  • Familiarity with industry standard calibration tools preferable.
  • Experience with Uniplot or Concerto plotting packages preferable.
  • Experience with analyzing emissions data from both gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Integrated Calibration and Application Tool (ETAS INCA) or Accurate Technologies, Inc. (ATI) Vision calibration tools experience.
  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must be fluent in English. Working-level second language skills is a plus. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively with peers, managers, and directors, and to present to groups of customers or employees of the organization. Values and considers the perspectives and backgrounds of all parties.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts and information typically taught during a four-year college or university course.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The environment will vary in this position based on assignments.  When working in the office environment noise is generally minimal. 
  • The environment in manufacturing plants and testing labs are often loud, hot, and with particulates in the air.
  • Working environment may contain potentially hazardous materials such as acids, solvents, oils, and common etchants. In such environments, adherence to PPE regulations is required.

WORK HOURS:

Employees must be able to work additional hours and/or additional days during the payroll week which can be in excess of forty (40) hours per payroll week.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Domestic/international travel with/without overnight stay may be required.
