Talascend is currently seeking an Engine Validation Test Engineer for a contract opportunity located in Pontiac, MI.
OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a hard-working, innovative, and curious Validation Test Engineer and Lead System Test Engineer to add to our Global Powertrain & Electrification Validation (GPEV) team. We ensure the design of our Electrified propulsion and powertrain products (Batteries, Drive Units, Power Electronics, Transmissions, Engines) delight our customers. As a Validation Test Engineer (VTE), you will be planning, developing methods, and carrying out system and component-level testing in world-class labs. This is a hands-on position. In this role crucial skills like creativity, independent judgement, and multi-functional teamwork are prized and can be further developed. You will operate with design & validation technical specialists, systems engineers, lab integration engineers, and technicians to bring exciting products to market. Engineers in this role may have opportunity for growth and develop into Lead System Test Engineers (LSTE). LSTE's learn leadership skills and will be engaged in programs throughout the development lifecycle. It is a great way to get involved with mentoring other VTEs, while also developing new and/or special validation tests and fixtures; just to name a few.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test methods and test automation to support validation sign-off, address challenges as they arise in a rapidly growing industry.
- Applies analytical tools in validation process.
- Support an Agile Team-based structure where you will rotate through fresh assignments supporting test execution, process innovation, and moving toward virtual (hardware-less) validation techniques.
- Operate with focus on safety in state-of-the-art test lab environments.
- Investigate testing anomalies and generate reports to highlight findings.
- Perform and support root cause analysis and correction of system level problems relating to hardware validation.
- Analyze and peer review test results and participate in data-driven efficiency initiatives.
- Engage in programs as production-intent designs are available and see them through to launch.
- Coordinates and consults with various departments outside engineering.
- Collaborates Interfaces with Component and System Validation Engineers.
- Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Chemistry.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication and collaboration in a diverse team environment.
- Ability to learn complex system functions (i.e. engines) quickly.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority.
- Proficient with Inca and/or Puma.
- Familiar with laboratory operations and test equipment including engine/transmission dynamometers, load frames, power supplies, electrodynamic shakers, environmental chambers, test site controllers, continuous monitoring, fixture design/fabrication, test equipment/setups, and laboratory accreditation standards.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with electrical, thermal, or chemical virtual modeling and simulation.
- Willing to gain specific training from a variety of people / techniques.
- Calibration and/or development experience.
- Outstanding data-driven decision-making history.
- Demonstrated analytical ability for unusual and difficult problems.
- Experience in one or several areas: Vehicle or System-Level Calibration, ICE or Conventional Transmission Development or Validation, Instrumentation & Test Automation.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of reliability & durability calculations.
- Demonstrated adaptability and ability to change with program modifications/updates.
- Self-motivated to work independently.
