Talascend has multiple openings for Automotive Design Engineers, both Exterior and Interior, for a project in Southfield, MI.  Positions are long term contract.  

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and design exterior and interior components for premium vehicles, ensuring high-quality and innovative solutions.
  • Support the full design process from initial concept sketches to final component release.
  • Address design changes resulting from build issues to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all geometric and technical requirements are analyzed and met for each project milestone.
  • Collaborate with teams across design studios, packaging, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to optimize design solutions.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining bills of materials while identifying cost-saving opportunities and manufacturing improvements.
  • Utilize CATIA V6 to create CAD surfaces, solids, GD&T, and fastening designs, following industry best practices.
  • Apply CAD methodologies, study files, slab models, and knowledge-based engineering principles.
  • Support purchasing teams in supplier selection and decision-making to ensure high-quality components.
  • Travel may be required to company headquarters, suppliers, and contractors.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive exterior or interior component design and development.
  • Understanding of industry benchmarks, trends, and supplier capabilities for both exterior and interior components.
  • Experience developing technical product specifications and supporting project timelines.
  • Proficiency in CATIA V6 for CAD modeling, maintaining high-quality design structures.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including:
  • Interior: Wrapping, injection molding, painting, compression molding, etc.
  • Exterior: Stamping, extrusion, casting, injection molding, etc.
  • Experience in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure proper fit, attachment methods, and alignment.
  • Familiarity with modal analysis, finite element method (FEM) analysis, or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a plus. Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or relevant experience.
