Safety Electronics - Validation Engineer
Talascend is seeking a professional, skilled individual for our Safety Electronics - Validation Engineer position located in Newark, CA.
OVERVIEW:
We are currently seeking a Safety Electronics - Validation Engineer. This position requires an excellent understanding of Automotive Electronics Engineering fundamentals with enough experience with Safety Electronics testing to be responsible for the validation of safety electronics systems with autonomy. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with safety electronics engineers to identify, generate and implement test cases and validation criteria for a system under test.
- Create and execute system validation test plans from system requirements.
- Support with engineering documentation such as Technical Specifications, DFMEA's (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DVP's (Design Verification Plan).
- Help identify gaps in requirements and work with the relevant engineers to update the requirement documents accordingly.
- Identify and procure test equipment.
- Troubleshoot hardware using general test and measurement equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters as well as industry tools such as Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, etc.
- Interface with software and diagnostics team to coordinate testing from bench to vehicle level.
- Automate testing and reporting through scripting for efficiency.
- Coordinate testing and validation activities.
- Execute tests at various levels of integration, document and report test results.
- Document and track issues as appropriate and participate in triaging of issues with different teams to drive towards root cause identification and resolution.
- Improve the Safety Electronics commodities transversal activities like teaching, feeding the guidelines and lessons-learned system, identify needs for future platforms, etc.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+years experience in automotive testing and validation.
- Hands-on skills to design, build and bring up test benches and breakout boxes.
- Knowledge and experience with automotive communication protocols such as CAN, CAN-FD, Ethernet, LIN, UDS and related tools to measure and command signals, though scripting or otherwise.
- Knowledge and experience of communication protocols for test engineering RS232, GPIB, Ethernet, USB or otherwise.
- Experienced in a scripting language for test automation: C, C++, CAPL, or Python or otherwise.
- Demonstrable ability to concisely present technical issues, findings and propose next steps.
- Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R).
- Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Education: BS minimum in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Understanding of Electronics Engineering fundamentals: Kirchoffs laws, Ohms law, Analog vs Digital, Harness Design (Connectors, Pins, Wire Gauge) and capacity to apply those fundamentals in problem solving.
- Have strong ethics and diligence.
- Understanding of the latest industry LV electrical architectures and vehicle networks including topologies.
- Ability to make efficient reporting, both oral and written; Ability to articulate highly technical issues to audiences not in the crash safety field, such as top management, design studio, purchasing team, etc.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent soft skills to manage suppliers, push the envelope to develop optimal technical solutions, ensure timely delivery of all components.
- Experience using APQP processes (DVP&R, 8D, DFMEA, DRBFM).
- Experience in program management.
- Familiar with the following automotive designed commodities: RCM, Radars, Cameras, TCU and Gateways.
- Experience in using embedded development boards (Arduinos, raspberry pi, STM boards, etc.).
- 6 sigma Green or Black Belt.
