Talascend is currently seeking a Boiler Technician for a contract opportunity in Cambridge, MA.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Responsible for the operations and maintenance for both high / low pressure boilers with the objectives of safely, efficiently, and effectively operating machinery and systems in an effective manner.
  • The Boiler operator / technician must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the clients’ needs, and a commitment to achieving the goal of 100% uptime throughout the campus.
  • Responsible for protecting and improving the value of the client’s assets and ensuring that the boilers and all related systems continue to perform their intended function.
  • Operator will work directly with the planners and schedulers to ensure they are receiving an executable schedule, as well as executing equipment inspection and monitoring programs; defines and implements maintenance best practices to improve overall equipment uptime; and continuously evaluates current maintenance, operations.
  • Inform the Facility Manager of any condition affecting these systems.
  • Specific areas of responsibility include but not limited to preventive maintenance, water chemistry testing and some repairs as needed.
  • Boilers, related systems & controls that support critical client lab, vivarium and tenant lab space operate per design.
  • Additionally, the Operating Engineer is expected to have knowledge of codes, laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the boiler systems.
  • The operator will be held accountable to be in compliance with all firm policy and procedures.
  • Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all Boilers and related building systems including but not limited to, any related specialized water systems, in critical environments, mechanical and other general site tasks.
  • Utilize staff and contracting with outside vendors as necessary.
  • Identify safety hazards within the building, ensuring a safe working environment. and participate in safety training programs.
  • Provide customer interface and support.
  • Support planning/scheduling optimization.
  • Assure Document Management quality.
  • Ensure that compliance of all regulatory laws and guidelines are met as they relate to the operation of the building’s boilers.
  • Responsible for alerting management of any discrepancies.
  • Maintain all compliance documentation for the buildings boilers up-to-date documentation mandated for the purpose of maintaining regulatory compliance with Federal, State or Local law.
  • Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the building. Responsible for keeping records of buildings rounds and readings, all boiler logs, and related data sheets.
  • Ensure that any client Critical Facility Work Authorization (safe work permits / JHA’s / LOTO procedures, and all safety and compliance related documentation are well-understood process by the operator and contractors who perform work on the building’s critical boilers and relates equipment.
  • Support Contracted Maintenance Staff and Vendors.
  • Performs additional job duties as requested.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Has in-depth knowledge of all Boilers, air compressors, Vacuum pumps, and related systems and how they function.
  • Knowledge of maintenance processes. (CMMS system / processes).
  • Understands the process to coordinate with Operations manager to determine the role & responsibility for client projects on a case by case basis to ensure projects are assigned and managed per the MSA.
  • Have the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Have the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs as required during shift.
  • Have the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
  • Have the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis during shift.
  • Have the ability to walk extensively throughout the facility during shift.
  • State of MA / Cambridge 2nd class firemen license is REQUIRED.
  • 3+ years of boiler / systems operational experience.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in facility related systems.
  • Hold any current state / local wastewater licenses. Class 2I license is preferred.
  • Basic Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
  • Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills.
  • Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.
