Our client is currently seeking a Fuel Handling Systems Design Engineer for a full-time, remote, contract career opportunity.

OVERVIEW:


Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to focus on the systems design of mechanical fuel handling and process systems for next-generation advanced nuclear reactors. The position will be part of a high-performing team of engineers and scientists, working on nuclear fuel handling equipment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the Ex-Vessel Fuel Handling system requirements to support the design of nuclear fuel handling equipment and components.
  • Provide a wide range of support for the design of fuel handling equipment.
  • Complete system documents to support the overall requirement management of the ex-vessel fuel handling system.
  • Establish and maintain system requirements and specification documents, such as Engineering Design Specifications, requirement verification and validation plans, and interface requirements documents for major plant equipment.
  • Follow engineering procedures to conduct and document design work.
  • Write technical reports detailing the design work.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
  • Present system requirements to the design team for reviews.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers regarding nuclear and non-nuclear design standards.
  • Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system designs.
  • Interface with design disciplines to identify and develop plant design information and specify system design and performance criteria.
  • Propose and initiate testing programs for plant system qualification as needed.
  • Provide support and oversight during test execution, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.
  • Participate in design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are refined.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years of direct experience with proven mechanical systems design skills.
  • Experience in the systems engineering of complex mechanical systems, particularly nuclear fuel handling systems.
  • Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling process systems, or similar high-performance system designs.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.
  • Self-starter with the ability to lead a design team with minimal direction.
  • Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1.
