Sr. Fuel Handling Systems Design Engineer

OVERVIEW:
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to focus on the systems design of mechanical fuel handling and process systems for next-generation advanced nuclear reactors. The position will be part of a high-performing team of engineers and scientists, working on nuclear fuel handling equipment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the Ex-Vessel Fuel Handling system requirements to support the design of nuclear fuel handling equipment and components.
- Provide a wide range of support for the design of fuel handling equipment.
- Complete system documents to support the overall requirement management of the ex-vessel fuel handling system.
- Establish and maintain system requirements and specification documents, such as Engineering Design Specifications, requirement verification and validation plans, and interface requirements documents for major plant equipment.
- Follow engineering procedures to conduct and document design work.
- Write technical reports detailing the design work.
- Coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
- Present system requirements to the design team for reviews.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers regarding nuclear and non-nuclear design standards.
- Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system designs.
- Interface with design disciplines to identify and develop plant design information and specify system design and performance criteria.
- Propose and initiate testing programs for plant system qualification as needed.
- Provide support and oversight during test execution, evaluation, and reporting.
- Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.
- Participate in design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are refined.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university.
- 10+ years of direct experience with proven mechanical systems design skills.
- Experience in the systems engineering of complex mechanical systems, particularly nuclear fuel handling systems.
- Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling process systems, or similar high-performance system designs.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.
- Self-starter with the ability to lead a design team with minimal direction.
- Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1.
