Talascend is currently seeking a Data Management Specialist for a contract-to-direct opportunity with our client in Washington DC. This role requires full-time, on-site at the Department of Justice (DOJ). You must be a U.S. Citizen, eligible for Public Trust security clearance.
Overview:
This role supports data infrastructure management for the DOJ, focusing on cloud services, database administration, data analytics, and reporting. The ideal candidate has prior DOJ experience and works with modern platforms including Azure, SQL Server, Power BI, Apache Tomcat, R Studio, and Azure Databricks.

Responsibilities:
- Administer Azure cloud resources including Azure SQL Database, Blob Storage, and Data Lake
- Configure Azure solutions for data storage, security, and access control
- Automate Azure resource management using Azure CLI and PowerShell
- Monitor, optimize, back up, and restore SQL Server databases
- Support SQL Server migrations and upgrades to Azure SQL
- Maintain and troubleshoot Apache Tomcat deployments
- Build and support data pipelines using Azure Databricks
- Create Power BI reports, dashboards, and data visualizations
- Analyze data using R Studio and support predictive modeling
- Document workflows, configurations, and data processes
- Collaborate with teams to design user-friendly data solutions
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Management, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in data management
- Proficiency with Azure (SQL Database, Blob Storage, Data Lake), SQL Server, Power BI, Apache Tomcat, R Studio, and Azure Databricks
- Experience with database performance tuning, backup/restoration, and cloud-based migrations
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, PowerShell, Python, and CI/CD processes
- Understanding of data governance practices
- Microsoft Certifications in Azure, Power BI, or SQL Server
