Talascend is currently seeking a Quality Engineer for a Direct-Hire opportunity with our client located near Grand Rapids, MI. This role offers a competitive compensation package, including bonus eligibility. The position involves 90% plant-based responsibilities, with 10% travel to client locations. The Quality Engineer will work Monday through Friday on the day shift.

OVERVIEW:

The Quality Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the production of high-quality manufactured products. Responsible for overseeing the manufacturing process to guarantee a first-time quality product, the Quality Engineer will monitor workflows, create documentation, qualify products and processes, and ensure compliance with customer, local, state, and federal regulations. The role includes collaborating with suppliers to ensure adherence to quality specifications, examining products, gathering customer feedback, and leading continuous improvement initiatives using 6S/lean methodologies to reduce waste.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Actively participate in new product launches and advanced development projects, qualifying products and processes at launch.
  • Ensure alignment with the Product Change Notification (PCN) process for product and process qualifications, including upgrades to maintain consistency across product lines.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects using 6S/lean methodologies to reduce waste.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with legal obligations.
  • Communicate customer product specifications, procedures, and warranty issues to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure manufacturing documentation meets customer and internal requirements to guarantee first-time quality.
  • Conduct product inspections and provide guidance and training to team members.
  • Align initiatives with company goals and promote growth and improvement opportunities.
  • Stay current on industry trends to identify potential improvements.
  • Consider environmental and social impacts, supporting efforts to reduce the carbon footprint and engage in community activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, production, logistics, EHS, engineering, HR, purchasing, and finance.
  • No direct supervisory responsibilities.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field.
  • Certification in 6Sigma Green Belt minimum and/or lean manufacturing required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
  • This requires visibility in both the manufacturing and office environments.
  • Manufacturing conditions may include cold temperatures in winter and extreme heat in summer, with noise levels that may be elevated in some work areas. Protective gear, including shoes and visual protection, is required.
  • Office work is conducted in a climate-controlled environment, with up to 4 hours of sitting for meetings and computer work.
  • Ability to carry or move up to 35 lbs safely.
