Commissioning Specialist
Talascend is currently seeking a Staff Commissioning Specialist for a 12+ month, contract assignment in Portland, Oregon.
Candidates must reside locally or relocate at their expense, no per diem available.
Overview:
The Staff Commissioning Specialist will lead commissioning and retro-commissioning efforts for existing buildings and electro-mechanical systems, ensuring equipment operates efficiently and meets owner needs. This role involves close collaboration with project teams to adapt commissioning plans to budget, design, and client requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Perform commissioning, retro-commissioning, energy efficiency retrofits, and demand response projects across diverse markets.
- Monitor and troubleshoot HVAC systems using building automation systems and standalone data loggers.
- Conduct on-site testing of HVAC, lighting, power, and control systems in collaboration with operations, maintenance, and contractor personnel.
- Prepare ASHRAE energy audits and condition assessments to identify efficiency improvements.
- Develop and oversee energy projects from identification through installation and verification.
- Ensure accurate completion of retro-commissioning assessments, evaluations, and reports.
- Provide concept designs, sequences of operation, and energy modeling for efficiency projects.
- Manage on-site retrofits and commissioning of new systems.
- Maintain detailed project records, including data and reports.
- Participate in sales pursuits and proposal development.
Requirements:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power & Controls, or a related field (experience may substitute for degree).
- Minimum of 11 years of experience with retro-commissioning, energy evaluation, and complex systems (HVAC, lighting, power, controls).
- Proficiency with standalone monitoring equipment such as flow meters, temperature loggers, and electrical meters.
- Strong analytical skills to quantify energy losses and costs.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Compliance with site safety procedures, including electrical safety.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of various clients (e.g., DOE, aerospace, military, pharmaceutical).
