Talascend is seeking a Development and Test Technician for a contract opportunity with our partner in Plymouth, MI.  Shift: 2nd (3:30 PM - Midnight)

This role will consult on Powertrain development matters and deliver engine development work for engine dynamometer and vehicle programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure quality and execution of performance and emissions testing on gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Participate in testing and development activities to improve testing and data analysis techniques.
  • Assist with the specification, setup, maintenance, and calibration of high-level test equipment such as combustion analyzers and emissions benches.
  • Support dyno control systems through setup, tuning, data collection, and cycle writing.
  • Facilitate engine installation in test cells, including mounting, dyno drive shaft selection, and torque transducer selection.
  • Implement general test equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, pumps, flow meters, valves, transducers).
  • Familiarity with standardized test cycles.
  • Perform intermediate vehicle-level tasks, including instrumentation, powertrain removal and replacement, and support for calibration projects.
  • Collaborate closely with customers and internal teams on gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel test and development activities.
  • Resolve problems using innovative techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new technologies to improve operations and provide recommendations.
  • Adhere to the Company Quality System and observe all safety rules and regulations, ensuring personal and colleague safety.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisor/manager.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 5 years of dynamometer testing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience with performance and emissions test cell setup and operation.
  • Ability to prepare engines for testing with minimal guidance.
  • Proficiency in tearing down, instrumenting, and rebuilding gasoline and diesel engines with minimal assistance.
  • Effective collaboration with various stakeholders, including management, design, calibration, build, and test engineers, as well as customers and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of customer processes, procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Self-motivated with a strong drive to complete tasks promptly and with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Domestic/international travel with/without overnight stay may be required.
