Saudi Arabia oil and gas jobs

Since the discovery of oil in the 1930s Saudi Arabia’s oil industry has become an integral part of the country’s economy. Saudi Arabia’s first commercial oil well struck oil in 1938 at Dammam on the coast of the Persian Gulf.

Oil exports in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest exporter of oil, exporting an estimated 7.6 million bpd in 2012. Saudi Arabia is also the largest consumer of oil in the Middle East using it for power generation and transportation fuel.

Oil is exported to countries across the globe and major customers include the USA, China, Japan, India, and South Korea. The majority of oil in Saudi Arabia is produced in the Eastern Province. The Ghawar onshore oil field located in the Eastern Province is the largest conventional oil field in the world, measuring 280 by 30 km (170 by 19 mi). The Safaniya Oil Field in the Persian Gulf is the largest offshore oil field in the world, measuring 50 by 15 km (31 by 9.3 mi).

There are three primary oil export terminals in Saudi Arabia including the Ras Tanura complex and the Ras al-Ju’aymah facility located on the Persian Gulf coast, and Yanbu terminal on the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia is also home to the world’s largest oil processing facility and crude stabilisation plant at Abqaiq, in the east of the country, which has crude processing capacity of more than 7 million barrels per day. 

Refining in Saudi Arabia

There are nine refining complexes in Saudi Arabia that produce petroleum products for export and the domestic market including gasoline fuel, diesel oil, liquefied petroleum gas, jet fuel and kerosene.

Saudi Arabia also has a large refining capacity overseas through its joint and equity ventures in facilities found in the USA, South Korea, China, Japan and the Philippines. 

Saudi Arabia natural gas

Saudi Arabia was the tenth largest producer of natural gas in 2012 with 83.9 billion cubic metres produced, and does not import or export any natural gas. At the end of 2012, Saudi Arabia had proven natural gas reserves of 288 trillion cubic feet.
