Oil and Gas jobs in the Middle East
The oil & gas industry provides a major source of engineering opportunities in the Middle East as the region is home to some of the world’s top oil & gas producing countries including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates who all rank in the world’s top ten oil and/or gas producing countries. Six countries in the Middle East are members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) these are: Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
There are opportunities for engineers to work on oil and gas fields located onshore or offshore, and the region has some of the world’s largest oil fields such as the Safaniya oil field in Saudi Arabia, the Upper Zakum field in the UAE, and the Rumaila field in Iraq. Engineers are also needed in the refining and processing industries at installations such as the Ras Tanura refinery in Saudi Arabia or the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery in Kuwait.

Transport jobs in the Middle East
The transport sector in the Middle East is one which is growing rapidly, with cities across the region improving their transport links. In Qatar, installation of the new Doha Metro system is under way, whilst in Dubai the existing metro system is being upgraded to improve connections for the public. Saudi Arabia is also improving its transport links through the Riyadh Public Transport Project.

Construction jobs in the Middle East
Many countries in the Middle East are developing and improving new and existing city infrastructure, for example in preparation as host of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar is estimated to spend around $200bn on various megaprojects.
In the UAE the go ahead has been given for the construction of the new Mohammed bin Rashid City scheme, a mixed use development which will feature the world’s largest shopping mall, a theme park, and over 100 hotels. In Oman, construction is taking place at the Sohar refinery complex to expand its size and increase capacity, and also at the Tahrir petrochemical complex in Egypt where the world’s largest naphtha liquid cracker will be built.
